Annette O’Toole & Her Husband Michael McKean Writing New Movie Musical

Michael McKean, currently starring on Broadway in Hairspray, and his wife, actress Annette O’Toole, are writing a new musical for the big screen.
"We are writing it as a traditional book musical, with an eye toward doing the film adaptation first," McKean told Playbill On-Line. "I’m not going to talk too much about it. I don’t want to be scooped on the subject matter. I’ve seen that happen to a lot of people. It takes place in the 20th century. That’s all I’ll say."
McKean and O’Toole wrote the Oscar-nominated song "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" for the Christopher Guest comedy "A Mighty Wind." McKean has also written songs for such films as "This Is Spinal Tap," "Waiting for Guffman," "Best in Show" and his breakthrough sitcom "Laverne and Shirley."
McKean also revealed that, after he exits Hairspray in October, he will go into another New York stage project. "It’s an original play," he said. "It will be announced shortly."
